Yes there are 70 days to the mid-term election day November 2 2010. I a, true beliver in grassroots action that will defeat the bigoted, fear-mongering republican tea party (to borrow this nomenclature for Vice President Biden).
Many of us may be waiting for President Obama, the DNC and the other organisations in the Democratic party to lead the way.
However, history has shown that is we want to enact a more progressive policy agenda in the next legislative year, then we must work hard to elect a more progressive Congress and Senate.
If you were in charge of gaining ans saving Democratic seats what would you do? Ideas will be fowarded to the powers that be. So please come up with some suggestions.
As we work on the ground in the State of Ohio which has a governor's race and a senate race, we need more ideas for the local and national message to help Progressive write the appropriate election day headlines that favor Democrats,
I feel that for the past 18 months, Progressives and Dems have not attacked the GOP but have instead focused on reacting to GOP attacks which results into the media being dominated by gop taliking points and lies. We need to sieze the initiative and let progressive idea dominate the media and make our language as the baseline for discussion
Here are a couple of my suggestions:
(a) Openly challenge the people who are using bigotry and fear-mongering speeches to win elections;
(b) focus on the issue of money in politic and corporate financing of politicians and emphasize how most of them pay very little
taxes;
(c) since the US Chamber of Commerce has decided that it is going to be a "formidable force" in the election, we should try to expose it for what it is and whose interests it promotes so that we can make it an organization whose support candicates will seek. for old people focus on their suggestion to privatize social security
(d) emphasisze the gop obstructionism even to to policies that would help the economy grow and create jobs;
(e) argue that Bush Tax Cuts must not be renwed and the projected income should be used to pay for Bush-initiated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
What ideas do you have?
