The domestic terrorists we call the Republican Party are continuing their intended mass murder rampage against uninsured Americans, so why do we allow them to worship their money god near Ground Zero? In this instance, Ground Zero means our homes.
Why isn’t Homeland Security doing something about their seditious and pernicious assault on our citizens?
Perhaps DHS is too busy maintaining their terror watch over at the Pennsylvania Gay and Lesbian Festival.
Republicans don't want big government to control our electrical grid, just our reproductive organs.
They're against big government waste. Instead, they want all the stealing done on a local level.
But when it comes to healthcare, national or local, they just want you dead.
As nyceve articulated in her superb diary last night, conservatively, 44,789 Americans die each year due to lack a of health insurance. Since that study was published last year by the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School, the number of uninsured has climbed from 46 million in 2008 to 51 million in 2009, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This means that the number of needlessly dead Americans will probably approach the 50,000 mark in the 2010 calendar year.
In comparison, every year, we sit back and witness the deliberate and preventable murders of almost as many uninsured Americans as those who lost their lives over 8 years in Vietnam. Among the dead and dying are your family members, your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers and unless I get lucky very soon, probably me.
The Marie Antoinette wing of the Republican Party say of the uninsured:
“Let them go to the emergency room!”
Sure. Just the place to schedule a heart stress test, or mammogram or your child’s Hepatitis B vaccination. And what happens to the uninsured when they do require emergency service?
From Matthew Yglesias:
"In a separate study, it was determined that the uninsured have an 80% higher risk of dying “even in the context of emergency room visits.”
The researchers took into account the severity of the injuries and the patients’ race, gender and age. After those adjustments, they still found the uninsured were 80 percent more likely to die than those with insurance — even low-income patients insured by the government’s Medicaid program.
“I’m really surprised,” said Dr. Eric Lavonas of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a doctor at Denver Health Medical Center. “It’s well known that people without health insurance don’t get the same quality of health care in this country, but I would have thought that this group of patients would be the least vulnerable.”
If “no health insurance means bad health care” or “bad health care can lead to death” were some kind of wildly counterintuitive propositions at odds with sound theory, then I think we might have good reason to doubt these results. But in fact they’re perfectly intuitive results that accord perfectly with, among other things, the elementary economic theory that says people wouldn’t pay for health insurance unless it provided something of value. The bulk of empirical studies also seem to confirm this. Lack of insurance is associated with low-quality health care which is (also) associated with enhanced risk of death. Americans continue to die every year due to lack of financial access to healthcare."
So we continue to die, en masse, despite the fact that we spend twice as much for half the quality of countries who refuse to pay penance to private insurance cabals and greedy Pharmas - and don't allow their politicians to get away with accepting open bribes from the industry.
I won't even mention the money made by Republicans when they murdered a few hundred thousand people in Iraq. This diary is just focusing on domestic terrorism.
So again I ask, why are Republicans allowed to worship to their money god just blocks from our homes - not to mention near our schools, churches, synagogues and mosques?
After all, the Statue of Liberty left them off the invited list.
