I have been following the Huff Po since inception. I am starting to wonder if Ms Huffington is making an attempt at third way poltics to favor her own career and book sales rather than simply reporting the news?
Third World America should be a good seller for Arianna Huffington, lord knows she has promoted it's meme enough. However, are we really heading toward becoming a third world nation? We still have the number 1 GDP, the best business environment in the world, the most productive workers in the world and we are the leaders in R@D. We have dipped in education but Obama has actually made great strides towards closing that gap for future generations.
Yes, the economy is in a bad way but didn't W Bush do that? Didn't the GOP start this whole mess? Obama passed the single largest stimulus in history and wants to pass even more stimulus. I am not saying the man is perfect and this is nto designed to be a full throated defense of Obama...I am just saying the man is doing more for average Americans that say McCain would have done or Romney or Palin or pick your poison on the right.
Huffington seems to have a pet project lately of bashing Obama simply for the sake of bashing Obama. I am now getting emails from my conservative pals saying how great Huff Po is. They love the fact that she is bashing Obama and splitting the Dem party.
Just today she compared President Obama to Lady Gaga. To me that is totally abusrd and further underscores the movement in this country to delegitimize our first African American president. Would she prefer is Obama wore a meat dress and advocated for the repeal of DADT? Obama wants to repeal DADT and would sign it today if given the chance. The culprits are social conservatives NOT Obama. Yet Huffington leads with the non story story comparing Obama to Lady Gaga???
Huffington is trying to get more readers. She is trying to tap into tea party rage and is using Obama as the pinata. It does the progressive movement no good to have a GOP congress and a conservative President. However, would it benefit Huffington is the GOP took the house? Would it benefit Huffington if Obama was defeated?
I do not expect her to be a patsy but I don't appreciate the off the wall headlines either. I am starting to wonder if Arianna Huffington is just trying to cash in on the "I hate Obama" meme rather than offer a good online news magazine.
