Attorneys for the Obama administration objected Thursday to a proposed worldwide injunction being considered by a California federal judge that would halt the military's ban on openly gay troops.
You know... I'm selfish. I know I am. I want GLBT service persons to be able to serve openly because that would make me happy.
- It would make me happy because it would piss off a lot of the people I went to school with and church with in the 70s and 80s.
- It would make me happy to see the Right Wing complain and whine and go ballistic.
- It would make me happy to see Focus on the Family and American Family Association blow arteries.
- Most of all, it would make me happy, as a GLBT American Citizen, to NOT BE TREATED LIKE A GODS DAMNED PARIAH if I wanted to serve OPENLY in the US military.
Now. this President has come out and said he wants DADT abolished. That's GREAT! I appreciate that. But I would really, really like to see some actual, factual, action in that regard, rather than this mealy-mouthed, bureaucratic, two steps forward and two steps back approach that we have here. I want a Trueman. I want a Lyndon Johnson. I want a Lincoln. What have I got for a President?
WHAT DO I HAVE FOR THE USA's FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT?
A Woodrow Wilson. I've got a Woodrow Wilson! Oh. Joy.
It's not just that the President says one thing, and then the next day his Administration does something else, it's that his Administration does that something else QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY. I support repealing DADT, says the President, and the next day, sure as the sun rises, bang, the Administration is appealing court rulings to make sure that DADT stays in place as long as possible.
"The case has put the White House in the uncomfortable position of defending a policy President Obama has said he wants repealed."
REALLY?!

I keep getting calls asking me to support Democrats in November. I get calls asking for donations. I get calls asking me to help trek thru neighborhoods and talk to voters. That's great. I've been happy to help. But you know what?
Every time I get stabbed in the throat it gets just a LITTLE BIT MORE DIFFICULT to think about going out to vote in November. Just a little.
We've seen this Administration say that combat troops have left Iraq, while 50k troops remain. We've seen this Administration make a complete hash of campaigning for health care until we were lucky to get anything at all - and even that watered down health care legislation isn't popular. We've seen the President fail to close GITMO, fail to repeal DADT, fail to support the base that got Democrats elected, fail to maintain a decent level of support among Democrats in Congress.
Oh. And gays still can't donate blood either.
I could be happier. Thanks.
