I was originally going to post a diary on the election, but thanks to the Attorney General I'm going to post on something else.
To be clear, I'm frothing mad, but I'm going to use as calm a language I can on this subject, because it is serious, and many of the more right wing leaning Democrats or independent leaning democrats automatically tune out any language that speaks to the seriousness of the situation (ie swearing and leaping up and down) because they like to act like Harry Reid, however since some of these people are on here and can theoretically be reasoned with, I'll keep this to a minimum.
If you're a lawyer and you break the law, you go to jail. Also, there are sections of the ABA or the State Bar that review your conduct.
If you're a cop and you break the law, there is an internal affairs department.
if you're a doctor, there are ways to have you reviewed by a medical board in case of malpractice.
Yes, there are THEORETICALLY ways to reign in prosecutors that go insane, but there are almost none that actually work. Prosecutors wield more power in this nation than any other office. Because merely an accusation can destroy your life. They can whip up laws, choosing left and right from laws like a deck of cards, and they don't answer to anyone for it.
If you're a normal citizen, and you're falsely accused, you can still go to jail. A few states might pay you some money for your time, but that's it. If a cop arrests you falsely, they can serve jail time or be fired.
Conversely, if you're a prosecutor and you fail to enforce the law, or more importantly conveniently fail to enforce the laws that you don't want to, there are no consequences in this country. You can get away with huge violations of the law; prosecutors sending innocent people to jail, fighting for years to have evidence submitted into a trial by review, and then, when found to be malicious in their actions, utterly held unaccountable for it.
And now Holder is defending this policy. I don't care if it IS a 'tradition.' This state of affairs must stop, and until it does, our justice system is a joke.
