Looks like there is significant progress has been made recently in Afghanistan. U.S., NATO, and Afghan forces have broken Taliban control of one of their main strongholds in Kandahar Province. While it was a difficult decision to invest more troops, and Obama had to deal with a rogue General in the process, his military strategy appears to be paying off. As stated in the article, the success in Kandahar directly coincided with the surge of troops.
I am not saying you have to support President Obama's strategy in Afghanistan. I am not saying you need to support his other policies or that the administration does not need some good old fashioned criticism once in a while. I am just saying that it is great when we get victories like this. Obama is by any measure incredibly smart, highly effective, and when we give his policies a chance to work they end up making some pretty good results. For example:
Lt. Col. Rodger Lemons, commanding Task Force 1-66 in Arghandab, said he had seen insurgent attacks drop from 50 a week in August to 15 a week two months later.
The same can be said about most of what Obama is doing. While results are not coming as fast as I, and probably most people would like, President Obama and the Democrats pulled us away from the brink of destruction brought on by President Bush and the Republicans. We are in a recovery, health care was passed, financial reform was passed, and now it looks like we are seeing progress in Afghanistan.
Here is the money quote summing up our recent victories against the Taliban:
“We broke their neck,” said Hajji Niaz Muhammad, the police chief in the Arghandab District.
