KO on in the background as I'm reading emails about upcoming events and I hear Keith say Chicago Cubs. "Whaa" my lizard brain says. I look up and start active listening. KO is talking about the owner starting a super pac and the story was covered by someone and now someone else was coming on to talk about it. Arrrghh!!!
Did I do the research? You bet I did! Jump the bump and find it!
I listened to the guy from the NY Times rehashing the article we have all seen by now regarding the big corporate money we have all been talking about for months now being used to campaign for or against a candidate. But what about the Cubs??? Nothing more... So I went to wiki first and yep, there it was:
http://en.wikipedia.org/...
J. Joseph Ricketts, owner of the Chicago Cubs, is the sole funder of Ending Spending Fund that is affiliated with Taxpayers Against Earmarks. AND this guy is spending money in Nevada for ads against Harry Reid and his earmark habit (if you must here's the link to the ad: http://www.endingspendingfund.com/...).
Now I don't have a beef with anyone wanting to fight earmark spending in Washington but after a review of these sites, I have found a right leaning pro House bias. Seems Mr. Ricketts does not care for our Senate and really has no taste for Democrats. And if he is really interested in Washington waste why would he not look at defense spending? Honestly, these rich conservatives...
At the end of the wikipedia page I found the original article KO was talking about. Amanda Terkel's coverage of the Super PAC: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/....
So what to do about this rich guy thinking he can take the money that I give him when I buy tickets to see the cubs, and buy cubs merchandise, and buy beer at Wrigley Field and use it to try and get some teanut elected in Nevada? Well, I hate to do it, but I guess I'm going to have to give up my cubbies in the interest of America. Now before the lot of you say that this is not a big deal as they are losers anyway, blah, blah, blah. These guys are a huge part of my family and friends. The dominate family holiday conversations, get togethers, bbq's, lazy summer days, and crosstown rivalries. Some of my best memories are at Wrigley Field behind the third base dugout (third row) with my dad, eating peanuts while he's explaining the game to his little girl. I haven't told Dad yet of my plan but I will not support a man who thinks his money(a tiny part of which is mine), can buy elections. If I can do something about it I will. How about you?
