All politics is local, right?
While the Republicans are trying to nationalize the campaign, and the 24/7 news media is talking about a pending Republican surge, I'm not so sure that's going to be the case in the end.
So, I offer this diary as a wiki for Kossacks to share their on-the-ground insights as we are just a week away from Election Day 2010.
What's going on in your local Congressional race? How are things looking in your neck of the woods? What do you think it will take for your Congressional Democrat to win?
The fact is, the Cook Political Report just isn't worth much anymore. Beltway insiders don't have as much clout as they used to, although they still want everyone to believe they do. And while Nate Silver is doing his best to handicap the races, he acknowledges that this race is especially hard to handicap both because of the volatility of the electorate and the conditions in the US economy. Negative ads aren't working, and Republicans have been completely unable to close the deal and convince voters that they are a viable alternative.
So, what do you see?
In the comments below, please use your Congressional District as the subject line. For example, my comment below is titled: "TN-5: Jim Cooper (Democratic Incumbent)". Then, in the body of the comment, add some more details. Questions to consider:
- Who is the Republican challenger?
- What are you hearing from friends and neighbors?
- What kind of ads are running? Anything memorable?
- What are the fundraising numbers looking like?
- Are you doing any GOTV work? How is that going?
Feel free, as well, to talk about Senate, local, and gubernatorial races in your state, although I would like this diary's comments to focus on the House.
While you're writing, be sure to make a few phone calls. Lots of good ways to do that, including the new tool from Organizing for America.
Keep the local focus, and let's keep winning.
