Or at least revise it substantially.
Are you trying to motivate people to GOTV by highlighting the WORST poll of all? Somehow I don't think that helps.
Are you trying to get people excited to work their themselves silly by suggesting that Nate's projections of +53 Republican in the House may be "optimistic."? I don't think that will work.
Somehow I just don't get it. The Gallup poll is by far the most outlier of all. If you want to give that wall to wall coverage, why not also give the same coverage to the other outlier, the Newsweek poll which has the DEMOCRATS up 3 (in other words, we keep the House and lose only 23 seats!).
Honestly, I think BOTH Gallup and Newsweek are way off. But you do a disservice to motivating people in these final days by focusing on the most negative poll and ignoring more positive polls.
Example-
The ABC News Wahington Post Poll, an equally reputable polling outfit, shows only a +4 for the Republicans on the generic balloting. And, MORE important, it shows the trends moving in the Democrats' direction: +13 GOP in September, +6 in early october, +4 in late October.
Not exactly "brutal" trend lines are those Kos?
But again, why give people hope when you can tear them down!
I am not saying you shouldn't cover the Gallup poll! You definitely need to discuss it. But you could combine it (as Nate as done) in a segment talking about the incredible divergence between pollsters. You could mention Gallup (+15 GOP), Fox (+13 GOP), Pew (+6 GOP), Washington Post (+4 GOP), Bloomberg (+3 GOP), McClatchey (TIED) and Newsweek (+3 Democrats).
But instead you focus on the negative.
Maybe I am wrong and it will motivate people to get out the vote.
Maybe people will think, "wow, if I work really hard, we might only lose 71 instead of the 81 Gallup projects." Somehow I don't think so!
If you agree with me, please Recommend, so the discussion can continue!
