It seems over the past 9 months or so, you can't turn on television news without hearing elected members of the GOP wanting to return to a more fundamental interpretation of the Constitution. For the longest time I have wondered what exactly does that mean? Back to the days when women could not vote and blacks were 3/5’s of a human? What the hell are they saying? Then you would see someone holding a sign that says we need to take our country back! Back from what? The scary black man in the White House? Democrats? Terrorists? Illegals? All of these? At first glance they all seem nuts. Fucking stupid to be more precise. A fucking stupid bunch of nutcases. All of them. But after thinking about them for some time I realized that some were actually right.......we do need to take our country back.
Progressives and the TEA Party do have one thing in common, we both want to take our country back; the only place we disagree is whom we take it back from. TEA Party members are oblivious that they support the very entity we need to take it back from: Corporations. This is where the Democrats failed so miserably in the mid-term elections. They never set the narrative that this election is about individuals vs. Corporations. Citizens United should have been a national rallying cry for the Democratic party to coalesce around and once and for all draw the line that Democrats are for individuals and the GOP is for big business.
Perhaps a lack lack of cohesive leadership between the Congress and White House to get "on message" or our own members close ties to big business keeps this from happening. There are always lots of factors as to why you have a difficult time herding cats. Providing a cohesive message has always been a problem for the Democratic party because I believe that there are always several ways to help our Nation move forward; and that the GOP message is always so rigid because they are single minded in their attempt to screw everybody.
There is a great opportunity moving forward to really paint a true difference between the two parties. We all know how great the gap is between the two, the biggest problem I have with our elected officials is that they do not seem to be wanting or willing to exploit it for our own good. It is time that our party show the Tea baggers exactly from whom they need to take our country back. While we may only change a few minds in the process, it will galvanize our party from top to bottom and set the right course going into the 2012 elections. RIGHT NOW is the time for the Democrats to stand united and fight this corporate takeover of our democracy. If not us, who? If not now, when? I’m ready. Are you?
