Women fell two votes short on Wednesday to coming closer to getting paid the same as men for the same work. Senate Republicans decided that equal pay for women should not even be considered, as they blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act from moving to the floor.

Is it any wonder I despise republicans both intellectually and viscerally?
How any woman can even be apart of the 'conservative' movement beats the hell out of me.
Oh and what a fucking surprise:
All Republicans voted no along with Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the lone dissenting Democrat.
Seriously who cannot support equal pay for equal work? Could it be republicans voted against it because satan herself Hillary Clinton originally sponsored the bill? They won't even allow it to be debated, shame on them.
When we only earn 77% of what our male counterparts earn equal pay would reduce the pool of cheap labor. Yet I see this was going to be the year of the momma grizzly, yeah right, how did that turn out?
To Republicans we are beneficial to their doomed campaigns, if we are deemed 'cute' enough. Its usually OMG we forgot over 50% of the population we better do something to look 'woman friendly'.
"I am deeply disappointed that a minority of senators have prevented the Paycheck Fairness Act from finally being brought up for a debate and receiving a vote," the US leader said in a statement.

Sorry Mr President deeply disappointed doesn't even cover half the emotions that I feel, once again they need calling out and dragging across the carpet. This is so fundamental to our rights and our dignity. Were is the fight?
Having such a large cheap labor pool with equal intellect will also harm men's prospects in the workplace, why hire a man when you can employ a better qualified woman for the same price?
Is it any wonder we lost in November when we cannot make the Republicans pay for their blatant sexism and obstruction. How can we not convince more than half the population that they do not serve their interests one iota? Ye gawds it should be simple, but first we need to insert a backbone into our representatives, scare the hell out of them if need be.
Messing with our bodies, labeling us in essence second class citizens by indicating that we are of lower worth isn't that something to builds a political platform on? Oh right, women only represent 17% of elected officials in DC; so easy to ignore in that boys club. talk about inadequate representation.
Still a second class citizen and still fighting.
Updates as requested to clarify
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Play Act is about process:
Under the bill, every paycheck or other compensation resulting, in whole or in part, from an earlier discriminatory pay decision or other practice would constitute a violation of Title VII, which guards against discrimination on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, and religion.
In other words, each discriminatory paycheck would restart the clock for filing a charge. As long as workers file their charges within 180 days (or 300 days in some jurisdictions) of a discriminatory paycheck, their charges will be considered timely.

Paycheck Fairness Act is about evaluation
The Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R.12 and S.182) was introduced January 2009 by then-Senator Hillary Clinton and Rep. Rosa DeLauro to strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963. The bill expands damages under the Equal Pay Act and amends its very broad fourth affirmative defense. In addition, the Paycheck Fairness Act calls for a study of data collected by the EEOC and proposes voluntary guidelines to show employers how to evaluate jobs with the goal of eliminating unfair disparities. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives on January 9, 2009.
