The good news keeps coming from the Golden State. Today the important AG race was finally decided:
More than three weeks after he declared victory in the race for state attorney general, Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley conceded defeat Wednesday as he trailed by more than 50,000 votes in one of the closest statewide races in California history.
Oops! Premature joculation much?
The decision means that San Francisco Dist. Atty. Kamala Harris will assume the post of California's top law enforcement official, giving Democrats a clean sweep of the statewide offices.
"Clean sweep". That sounds sooo nice!

Cooley's concession came 22 days after ballots were cast, with his Democratic opponent, left, holding a lead of about 51,500 votes, representing a lead of about a half percentage points in a race that also attracted four minor candidates.
This race is a major victory for a number of glass ceilings. If I am not mistaken, Harris becomes the nation's first multi-racial female AG (she is California's 1st woman, 1st African-American and 1st Asian-American to be elected AG.) She had been attacked by the right as a "female Obama", so this victory is another refudiation of the tactics of the racist, misogynist Reich wing.
So-called "down-ticket" races on state ballots rarely draw big national money, but huge corporate interests are funneling more than $1 million through a Republican campaign committee based in Virginia to buy anti-Harris campaign ads on Los Angeles County television stations.
The ad from the Republican State Leadership Committee -- one of the many such entities revolving in GOP political guru Karl Rove's orbit -- targets Harris, currently the San Francisco district attorney, for her opposition to the death penalty. But it's not hard to figure what its funders really care about. The committee has lately been getting its biggest contributions from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, major health insurers, big tobacco and manufacturing interests.
It's also nice to have beaten back the Rovian cash volcanoes that have erupted thanks to the Citizen's Untied ruling.
