How's about I, as a "professional liberal," (oh Hell! Unprofessional liberal!) throw myself under your Republican bus before you preemptively put it into gear to prematurely capitulate to your Republican enemies?
But, you know, if you're going to sneak around behind our backs early in your presidency to force Spain not to prosecute the Bush/Cheney torture freaks, don't you think you should get a crumb or two back from Republicans.
You delivered former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales; David Addington, former chief of staff and legal adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney; William Haynes, the Pentagon's former general counsel; Douglas Feith, former undersecretary of defense for policy; Jay Bybee, former head of the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel; and John Yoo, a former official in the Office of Legal Counsel from possible indictment and prosecution for their roles in the torture regime of the infamous Bush/Cheney deadly duo.

Couldn't you have had the smarts to negotiate for something in return, like, let's see, for Alberto Gonzales traitorous little body, extension of unemployment benefits?
How's about cutting an even more favorable deal for repulsive Republicans by tossing Adder Addington and Bugger Bybee onto the heap in exchange for the precious prize of ending generous tax cuts for the super rich? Isn't the venomous brain of Addington and the judgeship of Bybee worth that prize?
Now, William J. Haynes II. "ethical violations by former government lawyers involved in authorizing the torture and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment of detainees," wouldn't he be worth a tidbit or two, like not raising SS eligibility age to 69, or possibly raising the FICA and SECA ceilings?
And the torturous logic of John Yoo? That must be worth a bit. Something like lowering Medicare eligibility to 62?
I rather think these trades would do a goodly bit towards easing the national deficit at the same time.
I'm rather inclined to deliver Douglas Feith to his prosecutors because I detest his face so much, but I'd be willing to trade him for repeal of GLB, the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act, or possibly some action against our cursed right wing media monopoly, something like tarring and feathering Rupert Murdoch and running him out of the U.S., or prosecuting Karl Rove for treason, or passage of the DISCLOSE act. I'd trade Feith for something like that.
So, how come, Mr. President? Why didn't you take advantage of the situation? Instead being taken advantage of like you always do?
Damn it! I voted for you! I even gave your campaign a small amount of money! I hate it when I put my money and vote onto someone and then I see them endlessly humiliated by Republicans. My president, most especially the first African-American president, should not be treated in such a way.
It looks really, really bad.
