- Obama makes campaign promise to let the ill conseived Bush tax cuts expire because they are both harmful to the Countries long term economic future and unfairly favor the top 1% of income earners who have seen their share of the wealth sky rocket in the past thirty years while the rest of us have seen our incomes stagnate or even drop.
- Obama becomes President and creates a "debt" commission to look into ways of curving the rather large dept that has accumulated mostly as a result of the Bush tax cuts and Bush's ill begotten wars.
- Dept commission comes out with a list that looks like a wish list from the Republican party with recommendations like:
a) Further lower taxes for the rich and corporations
b) Cut Social security benefits and ask middle and lower class
people to work until they are 69.
c) Eliminate middle class tax breaks like the deduction for Mortgage
interest and the child tax credit.
- Republicans win 2010 midterm elections by insisting that the government debt is becoming too large and out of control. (Of course they used other issues like claiming Obama is a Muslum, a Socialist, Not a US citizen, etc..)
- Those same Republicans insist that all the Bush tax cuts (you know, the ones that helped create the huge deficit) must be kept, especially those for the top 1% of earners, the ones that have seen their incomes rise drastically while the rest of us have had our incomes remain static or decrease. Of course the Republicans don't mind that extending those cuts will add 700 Billion dollars to deficit, the same deficit that they insisted must be addressed during the campaign. Those same Republicans, who insist that we cannot extend unemployment benefits unless we pay for them, also insist that the richest get their tax cuts or no one does.
(The cogniteve disonence is getting overwhelming at this point)
6.Instead of calling the Republicans on their unbelievably dishonest argument and forcing them to filibuster a bill (thereby forcing them to spend days in the spotlight explaining to the American people that the plight of millionares and Billionares is more important to them then the plight of the rest uf us), Obama decides to allow the Republicans to win, thereby adding 700 Billion dollars to the deficit, the same deficit that Obama was concerned enough about to create a commission. Obama says that he got a good deal for us, the middle class, because he got the republicans to agree to a 1 year reduction in payroll taxes for workers, which by the way will add to the deficit and put Social security in a more precarious situation then it is now.
And I guess we are suppose to say, " Thanks Obama!... Thats change we can believe in"
So the "compromise" that the Democrats and Republicans came up with will add to the deficit with close to no net stimulus to the economy. Great job guys! George W Bush couldn’t have done it better.
I guess Obama thinks his base is as stupid and naive as the Republican base. Does Obama think that by adding a few more bucks to our paychecks we will suspend logic and not see through this stupid capitulation? I guess he thinks we can be bought off.
To Politicians in Washington, the worst thing you can ask of your fellow countrymen is to pay taxes. They don't have a problem with asking you to send your son our daughter to die for one of their ill begotten wars, but paying taxes is beyond the pale.
This situation would be funny if it were not so sad.
In the class war, it looks like Obama has become our own Neville Chamberlain.
Bernie Sanders is the only sane person in Washington these days.
I wish he would run for President. At least I'd be able to support him in good conscience,
I’m done with Obama. As they say. I didn’t leave him, he left me.
