Not the one that you want!" Remember those famous words uttered by then Sec of Defense Donald Rumsfeld?
Well this applies to Presidents as well. You go to war with Republicans with the Democratic President we have, not the one that you want!
I have to defend the President and his compromise deal on tax cuts in order to get unemployment benefts and some other smaller middle class tax extenders.
I have seen people on this blog saying the president should fight, that will show the Republicans. Well, just like in war, there is a human toll that has to be paid to win the war. Sure, the President could fight, however 6 million Americans would be going into the holidays with no money to put food on their tables let alone buy a small gift for their kids.
We have to stop this self immolation, this all or nothing war against the other side. What was the President to do? He has to listen to those who have no voices. We, the "better offs" have megaphones through this and other blogs, but those that are truly poor have no such means to register their wants and needs.
For the next two years this President has to work with the other side in order to govern. Throwing him overboard is a recipe for the wilderness for the next 2-4 Presidential terms and we would most assuredly lose the Senate for a decade.
Primarying the first Black President, regardless of the reasons would fracture the party. African Americans would stay home and the reason would ultimately come down to race.
So I call on everyone to think about what they are doing, saying, and adovcating.
Thie President is going to war with the army he has, not the one that he wants!
