No meta here. Just a call to action in a quick diary. Apparently, a new coal stripmine has just been approved to go in a mere 10 miles away from Bryce Canyon National Park. A national park belongs to all of us. Each and everyone. Currently, that is, before wall street buys out the national park service in a deficit reduction move and puts in condos.
According to the salt lake tribune story the environmental groups are on it
The Sierra Club, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, Natural Resources Defense Council and National Parks Conservation Association filed their appeal Wednesday, seeking a stay on mining and a review of state-issued permits for Alton Coal Co.’s Coal Hollow Project in Kane County, about 10 miles southwest of the park.
And Robert Redford has a compelling piece in the HUFFPO, complete with an action link I ask you all to go to (NRDC action link )so you can send a note to our bought out governor, Gary Herbert, and ask him to pull the plug on this thing, despite the $10K campaign donation he received from Alton Coal Development $$$$.
and of course, no Bryce diary would be complete without a fabulous picture to remind you what's at stake.
Thanks for your help!
