Holy F*k. A friend googled my name, and up came a website called MyLife that
posted my name, age, city and every city that I've lived in, plus names of my immediate
family members.
I went to their home page, and the site is endorsed by FOX, Wall Street Journal and others.
http://search.mylife.com/...
I just telephoned, and they said that they would remove it so that it couldn't be googled,
but that it would take 10 days to work.
That's not good enough. I asked where they got this personal information.
They said "public records."
I said, "which public records."
They said things like court records, drivers license applications, things like that.
I don't remember ever filling out a government form granting permission for this information
to be published on the web.
I have never, ever made this information public. Especially in an age of identity theft.
Can this possibly be legal?
I'm sorry this isn't a long diary, but I'm in a state of shock and anger . . . and fear.
