Y'know, there are a lot of good lessons for us in the movies, and not just as Dems.
The world of Humans in Middle Earth is divided, as we are in America.
Grungy individualists of the North.
Fighters of the Western Plains.
Cynical but stalwart Southerners.
Even the "ghosts" who have dropped out of the fight for years (those who don't campaign or vote or get active).
We must unite to fight the foes before us.
We must not become seduced by power, or distracted by fear.
We must all do our part, even the littlest of us.
At the end when Aragorn bows down to the Hobbits, I thought of the grassroots. And then the Hobbits go home, where everyone cares about the biggest pumpkin in that year's harvest.
Instead of grousing about how self-absorbed the other Hobbits are, they smile, because THAT'S WHY they fought.
We have to engage as many people as possible in our fights, political and global.
But we also have to remember that ennui, hopelessness, and fear are the enemy. Not the love of little things in life. DOn't get frustrated when your colleagues are saturated by it all and need to focus on the "Big Pumpkins" or TV shows.
It can all get done with enough people putting in a little time.
