Dude. I can always tell when I haven't written anything of substance, or anything in earnest, for quite awhile because I get, like, pissy as fuck. My two individual methods of therapy are writing and singing, and if I don't utilize said methods in a timely manner (read: at least once every three days), I become hellishly out-of-whack and, eventually, I blow a very large and ugly gasket. And there's usually shrapnel involved, I'm sorry to report.
So this diary is more like two gaskets, both of which exploded at once when I read this hellishly stupid article. I swear to GOD, I don't know wtf a gasket even IS, but if you were on the Front Range of Colorado today, and you visually witnessed some sort of intense fireball at approximately noon MST, which immediately evaporated almost as soon as it appeared, that was me.
Yeah. Because:
The Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs is borrowing a page from Alcoholics Anonymous by launching a 12-step program that offers pastoral care and support for homosexuals.
"It’s not about therapy and not about activism," said the Rev. Larry Brennan, diocese director of priest formation. "It’s about support."
The Catholic Church views homosexual relations as a sin, but not homosexual thoughts. It expects those with same-sex attraction to be celibate.
"The exercise of sexuality is reserved for marriage, and that can only happen between a man and a woman," Brennan said.
OH, BULL FUCKING SHIT! Let me see if I understand this correctly, Reverend Brennan: y'all Catholic priests have a bunch of "impure" thoughts about members of the same sex, and that whole "let's cure Teh Gay of their homoness" thingee didn't work out so well and never really caught on, so now you are suggesting that fags and dykes come to your "support group"?
What the fuck kind of help do you think the GLBT community wants from your sad ass, Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs?
GLBT-spectrum folk seeking so-called "help" from religious organizations is often extremely futile and, when concerning the Catholic Church in particular, especially futile. It's like a pig walking into a meat-packing facility, waltzing right on up to the guy with the huge cleaver, and going "what up, bro?"
To wit:
In Roman Catholicism, homosexual acts are considered contrary to natural law and sinful, while homosexual desires are considered "disordered" but not themselves sinful. The Catholic Church considers human sexual behavior to be sacred, when properly expressed. Anal intercourse and homogenital acts are considered sinful because sexual acts, by their nature, are thought to be both unitive and procreative (mirroring God's inner Trinitarian life). The Church also believes the complementarity of the sexes to be part of God's plan. Same-gender sexual acts are thought to be incompatible with this framework:
[H]omosexual acts are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
Is this one of those "hate the sin but not the sinner" dealies? Because you realize that, if you replaced the word "homosexual" with the words "female" or "black", we wouldn't even be having this motherfucking imaginary debate, now would we?
Back to this Reverend Brennan jerk:
"This is a population that is underserved," Brennan said. "They are not comfortable with the gay agenda and not comfortable with family oriented (events)."
The hell?! First of all, the population is underserved because you assholes refuse to acknowledge homosexuals as real people with equal rights. Don't blame the GLBT community for not kissing your ass enough, especially when there's no reason to do so.
And wtf is this "gay agenda" that I keep hearing about? Just so we're clear, my gay agenda for today (Wednesday, January 19th) was to get my lazy ass outta bed, apply for several jobs, make myself brunch, take a shower, get pissed about something I read on the internet, spend quality time with my daughter, and then come back home to write diary that disparages you directly.
And, as a spiritual but not religious person, I really gotta say that that hate the sin and not the sinner thing is condescending as all get-out. Don't fucking feel sorry for me for being bisexual when I don't feel sorry for me for being bisexual. As a matter of fact, the best relationship I've ever had in my life was with a woman.
So, seriously, fuck you! Also, Wanda Sykes:
And Colorado Springs, why are you so effing messed up?! I don't even get why you're still a part of Colorado, fer chrissakes. Your entire city makes my blood boil. It's almost like the Springs were transplanted from Plymouth Rock, via 1620, because you act like know-it-all Puritans from centuries past.
I mean, geez, Colorado Springs is the birthplace of Focus on the Family, Ted Haggard, significantly helping the Christian Coalition rise to prominence, heavily influencing evangelical Christian weirdness, assisting the military-industrial complex in America to thrive, and stupidly cutting most basic services for C.S. residents. You guys are a bunch of reckless freaks who do not belong in my adopted and lovely state.
You can suck it, Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods can stay, but you jack-offs have to go, because I said so. You are a boil on the butt of humanity and I, for one, have had enough.
/gaskets blown, rant end.
