The time has come for the left's answer to the Tea Party (the difference being, of course, that we are opposed to corporate power and the repeal of the entire twentieth century). The protests in Wisconsin and Ohio are exactly what the left side of the political spectrum of this country needs, and it is imperative to take the message nationwide.
While politicians of both parties huddle in Washington to weaken (and thus, in the long run, destroy) the already-meager institutions that make up the American safety net, while newly-empowered wingnuts run rampant in state legislatures throughout the US, while right-wing fanatics control the discourse in elected government and in the media, our voice - the voice of unions, working people, middle-class people, and basically anyone who disagrees with the great screwing coming down the pike - has been either silent or muffled. That needs to end ASAP.
The media and the politicians need to learn that we on the left can show up in force and make our voices heard, without being organized or prodded by billionaires or any other reactionary element.
I propose that people who care about the future of this country - care about the future of all of us, rather than the future of the Forbes 400 - show up on Saturday in places all over the country to show solidarity with not only Wisconsin public workers, but to show solidarity with every working American. The politicians must come to know that fucking over our future, our grandparents' futures, our parents' futures, our children's futures is not acceptable and that they fuck with programs like Social Security, Medicare and rights like collective bargaining at their own political peril.
Again, I propose we show up Saturday across this country in busy areas to let people know that our country is not going to be sold out from under us to the obscenely wealthy, and that if it is sold, it won't be bought cheaply. We as Americans need our own day of rage.
I'm terrible at computer stuff, but if anyone is interested in doing something like this let me know what I can do to get this thing off the ground.
