Hai, Y'all!
Sara R had surgery this morning to remove her sick gallbladder. Some wonderful Kossacks are our "boots on the ground" today: Oke and rfall arrived late Wednesday night to stay and help for a few days, and our darlin' llbear has been there from the get-go. Many, many thanks to them for being such good friends.
The big question going into surgery was whether or not Sara's gallbladder could be removed laparoscopically, or if she would require an open procedure. (teaching link here)
Surgery started later than scheduled, about 10:45 PT. Ann called me when Sara had finally been taken to the OR, sounding in good spirits and saying the surgeon still hoped to avoid doing an open procedure.
Well, he did. Our Sara is out of surgery, with one tiny incision ... and will be discharged this evening!!!
Please visit Oke's earlier diary as well as this one. You don't want to miss the photos of the incredible community quilt Oke presented to Sara last night!
Oke, by the way, is one of my new heroes. Thank you, Darlin. ♥

Ok. So let me recap this:
exmearden's dogs are now living with Kitsap River and Charles.
Kitsap River gets a new kidney and it works and hundreds of us are jumping with joy.
The Daily Kos community raises enough money so uninsured Sara R can have urgent surgery.
Oke makes a queen size quilt for Sara R, the queen of quilts.
Oke and rfall drive all the way from the Bay Area to Portland to present the quilt and take care of Sara R after her surgery.
W. O. W. just wow.
Thank you Markos for this place to build relationships and thank you to your Director of Community, Meteor Blades.
I'm quite chuffed to be part of this community.
Oh and don't forget that rfall and Oke met at Daily Kos and are now married.
UPDATE: Based on the comments, some folks haven't heard the good news about Kitsap River and her new kidney. It's true! It's freaking true! I'm still having trouble with links in my diaries, but you can find hers on the second page of the rec list, or her latest update to same blockquoted below in one of my comments.
