Just some of the facts and links to be found:
"I Stand With Walker" rally promoted by Wisconsin talk show host Vicki McKena.
McKena's Facebook page with details about where buses will be leaving from:
INFO ON THE RALLY. busses from Milwaukee; Rhinelander/Eagle River; Eau Claire Hudson; Green Bay/Appleton
I STAND WITH SCOTT WALKER RALLY (organized by American Majority)
Location:Wisconsin State Capitol, East Side of the Building
Time:12:00PM Saturday, February 19th
The official "I Stand With Scott Walker" facebook page.
Select Wisconsin union workers' salary information published on McKena's facebook.
Looks somewhat cherry-picked. Does anyone know where to find real information to evaluate this against?
And they didn't waste time. They've registered the domain name IStandWithWalker.com and already posted a heroic-looking splash page .
Update:
I looked at the Wisconsin teacher data published on McKena's page:
"The current budget repair bill would have them paying about 5.8% towards their own retirement....right now, we the taxpayer, pays 100% of their generous retirement, and most of us pay 100% of our own retirement too.
AVERAGE WAGE AND BENEFITS (remember this is for about 9 months of work)
TEACHERS:
Milwaukee $86,297
Elmbrook $91,065
Germantown $83,818
Hartland Arrwhd $90,285 (highest teacher was $122,952-lowest was $64,942)
Men Falls $81,099
West Bend $82,153
Waukesha $92,902
Sussex $82,956
Mequon $95,297
Kettle Mor $87,676
Muskego $91,341"
My response:
The teacher data is dishonest and misleading
Please download the information yourself. http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/...
1. This page lists only the top ten districts' salaries plus benefits out of 425 districts
2. The figures shown are NOT salaries, but salaries plus average value of fringe benefits. We may not agree with teachers' benefits packages, but it's misleading to convey that this is what they get paid. If you work full-time you also receive benefits. Private industry Employee Benefit Research Institute calculates value of typical private sector full time employee benefits at 30.2% of salary. So to compare teachers salary PLUS benefits compensation to your own situation, if you're full-time, add 30% to your salary.
3. Median teacher salary statewide is $48,000.
4. Median years of experience teaching is 15.
5. Teaching requires an advanced degree and teaching certificate.
6. Compare salary of $48,000 to other professionals working 15 years at their profession with advanced degrees and certification.
Wake up people, you are being fed distorted information to make you feel angry and jealous, to divide us. Teachers educate our children, and I want them to be compensated fairly for this incredibly important job.
Help please? I don't facebook well enough to know how to post that response to McKena's disinformation page . Anyone?
