Union-Busting Hits Rhode Island in Providence with over 1,900 teachers getting pink slips, and another 80+ in Central Falls, RI.
I know one of these teachers, and she's devastated. They sent out the pink slips during vacation week. Many teachers are away with their families and have no idea what they're coming home to.
This is yet another attempt at union-busting. Instead of negotiating with unions, all the teachers are being fired at the end of the term and will need to apply to get their jobs back, likely with reduced pay, reduced benefits, and reduced if not eliminated pensions.
It may be time for a general strike. Wisconsin teachers aren't alone. RI teachers aren't alone. Police officers, Firefighters, Janitors, Sanitation Workers, WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER.
This makes me absolutely sick. The top 1% is partying with their tax cuts, and blaming unions and immigrants for the recession.
Rising gas prices are a good indication that we're headed for another dip into recession. As gas prices rise, prices for food and other goods will rise because of shipping costs.
So, what's the plan? Where do we start?
