I think we miss the point when we argue that it’s Democrat vs Republican. As it has been all through history, it’s rich vs poor. Have’s vs Have nots. It’s about greed and desire for power.
We have seen this play out in History so many times that we should expect it. Every revolution is about the rich abusing the poor. They get greedy and eventually demand so much that the majority of the populace end up suffering. We saw it in France, in Russia; we see it today in the Middle East-people are brought to a breaking point and then they revolt. The only difference is how much blood is shed.
The Republican party are the Patriots, or so they claim. But is it patriotic to allow businesses to completely abandon the Nation by outsourcing? Is this practice not at least partially responsible for the mess we find ourselves in? Is there no loyalty to the American Worker, the people who have built this nation into what it is? In a short span of maybe 30 years we have seen the complete abandonment of the middle class in favor of cheap labor overseas. And we’re not going to recover from it.
The Democratic party is the party of the Worker, or so they claim. But really, their loyalty is to the money also. Indeed, it was Clinton who signed a lot of the agreements that made the above possible. When it comes down to it, don’t you think the reason Obama fucked us on healthcare is because of the almighty dollar? If he took on the industry and made it single payer or medicare for all the Almighty Greedy Ones would have crucified him. Same reason nobody from Wall Street is in Jail.
All of the real money that funds our politics comes from the same source, and they hedge their bets by donating to both parties. For the most part, it goes to Republicans because they’ve utterly abandoned the middle class. They garner votes from working class types via an enormous propaganda machine, aka Fox news and hate radio. They put up strawman arguments about abortion or the gays or being tough on military defense and the common man falls for it hook, line and sinker.
The current debacle in Wisconsin illustrates it perfectly. First, we have a big debate centered around Tax cuts. They get everyone believing the Government is evil and out to take our money. People fall for it. The result ends up being that the Rich get an absurd amount of money. Next, they state that we have no money to pay those god damn teachers who are getting too much from the State, taking advantage of the good tax paying citizens! We have to balance the budget!!! No talk about having the Rich pay their fair share.
I don’t have to list the ways the rich game the system. GE, Exxon Mobil and BP paid no taxes last year. We all know how they hide money overseas, take advantage of loopholes and generally make the middle class pay the bill for their extravagance.
Historically, they take advantage to the point of no return. We have a French Revolution. We have a Russian Revolution. We have another Russian Revolution 70 years later where the New Rich fucked the same workers that they revolted to help in the first place. It’s going to happen in China eventually. It’s going to happen in India if the gap between rich and poor widens significantly. It’s happening in the Middle East. And it will happen here, if the trend continues.
We can continue to ignore the abandonment of the Middle Class here in the United States, but only at our own peril. We will, eventually, revert to a society of the very rich and the very poor. It is the one lesson of history that we always seem to forget.
Can we reverse this trend? Wisconsin might be awakening the people. But we have to hold our Government responsible, and there needs to be some major changes.
Mostly, as I see from the Diaries today, we have to abandon our illusion that it’s Democrat vs Republican. They all answer to the money. All of the election financing comes from the Corporations, and Obama fails to recognize what so many of us tried to convey when we gave $5, $10, or $20 of our hard earned money to support what we really wanted-change we can believe in. Change he failed to believe in once he was elected.
