Perhaps the GOP should take some of their Talking Point expertize, and let the Pentagon know they will be "wasting" a boatload of Taxpayer money -- If the Pentagon continues with their Preparedness Plans, for the Climate Fallout they are seriously expecting, not too far down the road.
Afterall a great many GOP Spinmeisters seem pretty damn sure of themselves on this dicey Topic ...
U.S. Poll: Most Republicans Believe Climate Change a “Hoax”
By Farron Cousins, energyboom.com -- November 18, 2010
In spite of all evidence to the contrary, a majority of Republicans in America believe there is no scientific evidence to prove that climate change is happening, or that it is being exacerbated by human activities.
According to a new poll by the Pew Research Center, 53% of Republicans say there is absolutely no evidence of global warming. That number jumps to a staggering 70% among supporters of the "Tea Party" movement in America.
I wonder where GOP Tea Party, got that Idea anyhow, about the total lack of scientific evidence for the rapidly advancing Climate Change events, occurring all around the world?
Well here's one main reason, that Climate Science has been questioned -- because the GOP's primary Talking Point Guru, Told them to "question it" ...
Memo exposes Bush's new green strategy
by Oliver Burkeman The Guardian, in Washington, guardian.co.uk -- 4 March 2003
The memo, by the leading Republican consultant Frank Luntz, [...] urges its politicians to encourage the public in the view that there is no scientific consensus on the dangers of greenhouse gases.
"The scientific debate is closing [against us] but not yet closed. There is still a window of opportunity to challenge the science," Mr Luntz writes in the memo, obtained by the Environmental Working Group, a Washington-based campaigning organisation.
"Voters believe that there is no consensus about global warming within the scientific community. Should the public come to believe that the scientific issues are settled, their views about global warming will change accordingly.
"Therefore, you need to continue to make the lack of scientific certainty a primary issue in the debate."
Perhaps Mr. Luntz, when he gets done with his Tea at the Koch Mansion, perhaps he should give the Pentagon Generals a call about "his findings" ... it seems that they just haven't been getting his Climate Memos ...
You don't get to be General by being Dumb -- I would suspect the Generals and Admirals that "signed off" on this Action Report, all have a healthy respect for Science and the Scientific method:
Climate Change and National Security: Pentagon Says Global Warming Is Real and Is Planning for the Worst
By Richard A. Kujawsk, livinggreenmag.com -- 2010
Some of the specific challenges that the military is planning for include:
-- Storms and rising oceans endanger bases in the U.S. and overseas. [...]
-- Melting Arctic ice cap is exposing a sea of problems. [...]
-- Droughts, floods, and storms will increase the global need for relief. [...]
-- Mass migrations of weather refugees and food/water shortages will foster terrorism and political unrest. [...]
All of this has been known since 2007, when a landmark report on climate change and national security was published by the CNA Corporation (www.cna.org), a think tank in Alexandria, VA. The report, "National Security and the Threat of Climate Change," was written by the Military Advisory Board (MAB), consisting of six retired admirals and five retired generals. The report warns that global warming poses a "serious threat to America's national security" and that “The chaos that results can be an incubator of civil strife, genocide and the growth of terrorism.”
And about that Naval-funded Think Tank that help put together the Pentagon's Preparedness Plans, for the Climate Fallout they are now expecting in the next few Decades -- here are their "Formal Findings" ...
They sound pretty Science-based to me -- Nothing "theoretical" about it!
National Security and Climate Change
The CNA Corporation
Global climate change presents a serious national security threat which could impact Americans at home, impact United States military operations and heighten global tensions, according to a new study released by a blue-ribbon panel of retired admirals and generals from all branches of the armed services.
[...]
The report includes several formal findings:
-- Projected climate change poses a serious threat to America's national security.
-- Climate change acts as a threat multiplier for instability in some of the most volatile regions of the world.
-- Projected climate change will add to tensions even in stable regions of the world.
-- Climate change, national security and energy dependence are a related set of global challenges.
The report also made several specific recommendations:
-- The national security consequences of climate change should be fully integrated into national security and national defense strategies.
[...]
SOOO, the next time some GOP-Ditto-head tells you that 'Climate Change' is only a Theory
-- you can Tell them to Take it up with the Pentagon.
Since THEY have made 'Climate Change' a matter of National Security.
Thank you very much!
