One of the biggest stars of professional wrestling in the 1980's and 1990's, the "Macho Man" Randy Savage, died today in a car accident at the age of 58. He crashed his car while suffering a heart attack; his wife Lynn was in the car at the time but survived.
Many Kossacks between 25 and 40 likely remember the Macho Man from their youth as one of the most exciting and flamboyant performers in professional wrestling. His gravely voiced trademark exhortation "OH YEAH" and outlandishly colorful attire made him like a living superhero to wrestling fans across the world. His match for the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania III against Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat is widely considered to be the finest match in Wrestlemania history. He appeared as "Bonesaw McGraw" in the hit movie Spider-Man.
I was just sad to see him go, he was a big part of my childhood, I've had his action figure looking at me on my mantle for years. He's had his problems in life, but he's been blissfully retired and only remarried last year.
