So a few weeks ago Adam Bonin mentioned in a diary that he didn’t realize how many Kossacks actually don’t know what the heck Netroots Nation is or why they should bother attending. He listed some pretty good reasons, but he forgot a few...so without further ado I and my famous friends, the pooties, shall attempt to further explain just why it is that you, yes you dear lurker simply must attend Netroots Nation 2011 in Minneapolis June 16-19.
1. 70+ amazing panels/workshops/trainings on everything from wonky stuff like the Economy and Environment to Social Media by amazingly smart and talented people
2. The hallways- here’s your chance to talk pooties errr ferrets with Markos or baseball with Adam B or raccoons with Kagro X
3. I don’t yet know which bar it will be but in Vegas it was iBar and whichever bar it is will be dubbed mBar- that’s where all the cool kids hang out at night after all the activities are over and you just never know who you’ll end up enjoying a beer with....
4. Chairman’s Pub Quiz- Adam B spends months slaving away on the toughest trivia quiz he can come up with and bragging rights are hard to win but oh so worth it
5. Daily Kos party has become an annual tradition. Besides the great music, usually provided by local bands and drinks there’s always some kind of fun surprise in the waiting
6. Speaker, Speakers, Speakers- in the past we’ve had President Bill Clinton, Sen. Al Franken and this year the convention will kick off with former (sniffle) Senator Russ Feingold.
7. Did I mention mBar?
8. Netroots for the Troops- It’s no secret, I attended my first NN in Pittsburgh in 2009 and it literally changed my life...but the main reason I went was to pack the carepackages for the troops serving overseas.
9. Oh and of course the best part of Netroots Nation is putting faces to those funny screennames and learning how to actually pronounce them (hint: it’s ear- icicle and speedwaybabs (wink))
10. Did I mention mBar?
So there you have it 10 reasons you should be in Minneapolis for this year’s Netroots Nation.
See you there!
