Did I mention we're at T - 25 days until Keith Olbermann's triumphant return to the television machine? The Dude approves!! :D
Before we go on to the next segment of Countdown history, I need to do a bit of "house keeping." Some twin of mine who occasionally writes diaries here turns 40 tomorrow; I heard her practicing her "old lady yells at clouds" voice today. ;D I'm pretty sure there will be plans for the occasion, but I'm not sure of timing as far as diary posts here. So, the best I can say right now as far as any diaries tomorrow night is to check these parts same bat channel similar bat time. Okee - dokee? :D
As I mentioned last night, Countdown did not start out with much or any commentary concerning the stories covered during the show. The first glimpse of a possible "sea change" in the show's format arrived the night of September 5, 2005 in the aftermath of the horrible death and destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina & the increasingly - evident downright incompetence & negligence of the GWB administration.
I remember that night Hubby & I looking at each other afterwords & saying something to each other along the lines of "Uh - oh! Keith just might be in the soup now!!" :D To paraphrase & botch Winston Churchill, that night was the end of a beginning & the beginning - the teeny tiny seeds - of what the show would eventually become.
