I just got back from my eldest child's high school graduation. I cried (in the car where no one could see me) like I did the day she went off to kindergarten -- which seems like only last year.
This going to be a short diary but I feel the need to say to this to someone.
Those teachers and administrators and support staff rock! I love those people.
I am in Michelle Bachmann's district and so the majority of my neighbors are tighter than a drum with the purse strings for schools. We have have operating levy's denied by my dear ignoramus neighbors every election year for 10 years running. Our school board has, up until just two elections ago, consisted at least half of knuckle draggers who hate public education.
The voters have Grover Norquisted the schools into the lowest spending per student in the state.
And yet, the schools have done an amazing job in spite of it all.
I know it is fashionable to hate on teachers these days. But those teachers are incredible. Those administrators! Those janitors and bus drivers and lunch ladies!
To see these kids launched into the world from a place of such personalized and caring and excellence achieving professionalism amazes me.
Thank you, public educators. I will always have your back.
