Did you miss out on NN11? Did you attend, but need another fix?
Congressman, and soon to be gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee, will be the opening keynote speaker at the NWroots Conference in Seattle on Saturday, July 9th. NWroots is a gathering of liberal bloggers, political activists, and citizens who care about progressive public policy. Inslee will be followed by University of Washington graduate and undocumented "dreamer", Alonso Chehade, who faces potential deportation if the Dream Act fails to pass. Chehade will precede Washington State Labor Council President Jeff Johnson, who will speak about the role of unions in politics and the new political strategy (you know, the snootful of shit thing).
The closing general session will feature Washington's Fourth Congressional District Candidate Jay Clough, Congressman Jim McDermott, and former Canadian Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh. Dosanjh was born and raised in India, then emigrated to Vancouver, BC as a young man where he earned a law degree before entering politics. He served as a member of British Columbia's Parliament, Attorney General of British Columbia, Premier of British Columbia, Member of Parliament, and Health Minister in the Paul Martin Administration. Dosanjh will speak about single payer universal health care.
Breakout sessions include health care, labor, media, electronic voting, the mortgage crisis, immigration, and two sessions by Jill Richardson – one on our messed up food system and how to fix it, and another on the worldwide nocuous influence of Monsanto.
A candidates social will take place ahead of the closing general session, which will be capped off by a special musical performance by the internationally acclaimed Total Experience Gospel Choir, followed by an after party at Seattle's oldest saloon.
Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration price of $50 ($25 students).
