Dems dig in: GOP trying to sabotage economy on purpose
By Greg Sargent, washingtonpost -- 07/01/2011
[...] On a conference call just now with reporters, Senator Chuck Schumer made the most aggressive case we’ve heard yet along these lines, leaving little doubt that Dems are locking in behind this message as the deficit talks hit crunch time and as the 2012 campaign looms.
“Do they simply want the economy to go down the drain to further their political gain?” Schumer asked. “They seem to be against anything that may create jobs, because they view a weak economy as key to their political chances in 2012.”
“It’s an uncomfortable question, to be sure,” Schumer continued. “Are they trying to undermine the economy on purpose, for political gain? Harry Truman had a do-nothing Congress. The Republicans seem to be trying to make this a do-nothing-on-the-economy Congress.”
The latest evidence of this, according to Schumer: GOP Senators boycotted a hearing yesterday on three pending free trade deals they once supported.
Here's Schumer telling the truth about the GOP's not-so-secret game plan ...

Cantor said Thursday that Obama's plans for the auto industry are, in his words,
'almost like looking at Putin's Russia.'
Cantor says "the normal rights of secured creditors have been taken away and given to political cronies and the auto workers unions."

Yeah but, that's just hearsay, or something said in the heat of the moment. There's no evidence of an "organized plan" that shows the GOP plans to Obstruct Everything just to hurt Obama, is there?
Republicans privately plot John Boehner-run House
by Mike Allen & Jim Vandehei, politico.com -- 9/9/10
House Republicans have held a series of private discussions to plot their first moves if they win the majority in November — with plans to use spending bills and subpoenas to rein in President Barack Obama and satiate their own ravenous base.
Republicans recognize they won’t be able to do any broad governing even if they take back the House; they’d hold just one chamber of Congress, or at most one branch of government, if they also win the Senate.
So officials familiar with the early discussions say they’ve centered on undoing key parts of the Obama agenda and repositioning Republicans as the party of fiscal responsibility heading into 2012 [...]
The plans presently under discussion include defunding some parts of the new health care law and delaying implementation of others, withholding some of the unspent stimulus funds and using the oversight power of Republican-led committees to investigate the Obama administration.
"The goal, obviously, would be to make it a one-term presidency," said a GOP lobbyist briefed on the talks.
So there you go. Republican have a plan to block Governing. They've been carrying it out, like clockwork. Tick Tock.
Gridlock
Stonewalling
Dogged Obstruction
Goal Post Moving
Slash and Burn
Hostage Taking
Deliberate Saboteurs
Crash the Economy
Scorched Earth Policy
Hmmm? where have we seen such tactics before ...
Scorched earth
From Wikipedia
A scorched earth policy is a military strategy or operational method which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area. Although initially referring to the practice of burning crops to deny the enemy food sources, in its modern usage the term includes the destruction of infrastructure such as shelter, transportation, communications and industrial resources.
You pick the "they hate government" metaphor -- No doubt the GOP Scorched Earthers would pursue the 'Trash America First' policy -- if only they thought they could get away with it, ... if they could get away with pinning the Economic Results of their Stonewalling, on the Do-Gooder Democrats, always trying like heck to Help Ordinary people.
Who do the Dems think they are anyways -- the People's Representatives, or something?
Keep asking those blunt questions, Dems:
"Are Republicans slowing down the Economy on purpose, for Political Gain?"
Because us Ordinary folks out here, know the real score of the last Decade, and we could use all the Real Help we could get, about now.
And those GOP Leaders -- well, they never met a Millionaire they wouldn't fail to Help out.
Ordinary People, not so much.
Who could forget Grover Norquist's NO New Taxes Pledge that all of the GOP has 'pledged their allegiance to' ? [NOT America, they Pledge to Grover.]
Grover Norquist is famous for his widely quoted comment that he wants to
shrink government "down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."
So there you go. The GOP HAS a Plan -- and it's not pretty.
