Just had to comment briefly on a whine of a diary that purports the author is a Democrat, not a Progressive. I won't link to it, it can be found.
I'm a Progressive because I still believe in the New Deal and the more beneficient parts of the Great Society; I'm a Progressive because I still believe Social Security and Medicare are untouchable, that due process and equal protection for all is a bedrock of democratic principles; I am a Progressive because I still believe in a woman's right to choose and that wars should be fought, if at all, when it has been voted on in the legislature; I'm a Progressive because I believe in one person, one vote and that corporations are not human beings; I'm a Progressive because I believe voter I.D. laws are poll taxes and literacy tests in disguise. Because these are now considered extreme positions in the Party, says more about the lurch to the Right than anything Progressives have done.
So when I read some weasley ass, misspelled sputum masquerading as prose, argue that Progressives are the cause for the dissaray in the Party, I know the author has probably never heard of Spiro Agnew, let alone his proclamation that this country "will move so far to the Right, you won't recognize it."
The diarist proved Agnew's point.
I'm a Progressive because I choose to remain a Democrat.
