I'm really sorry to hear you've been betrayed. Again. It seems like that's all that ever happens to you. According to you, anyway. One betrayal after another, by one Democratic leader after another for all of living memory. FDR the rescuer of capitalism, Truman the strike-breaker, JFK the tax-cutter and Cold War brinksman, RFK the Red-baiter and wiretapper, LBJ the hippie-stomper and warmonger, Carter the airline deregulator and health care conservative (according to Ted Kennedy), Clinton the bane of social welfare, Al "Bush Lite" Gore, and now today...well, I wish stupidity were less predictable. Seems the only people who meet your standards are the ones who never have a chance to be tested against them in office - or at least the ones who served before you were born, and you never bothered to read about. Funny, that - how the only way anyone can satisfy you is to never come under your scrutiny in the first place. Who's going to betray you next week? How about the week after that? The only certainty is that it's never going to be you on your list of people who need to change.
Just out of curiosity, how long is your list of enemies these days? Is there still at least one Democrat who isn't on it, or did you have a dream that Dennis Kucinich betrayed you and then he failed to return your phone calls asking him to deny it? Does anyone ever leave the list once added to it, or is everyone on permanent standby for denunciation as a double-secret-agent of The Man? Here's another question - how many minutes could Bernie Sanders stay off your list of betrayers once you started paying attention to him instead of just using him as a narrative foil for your current bete-noir? By asking these questions, did I just make the list, Francis?
Or maybe the conspiracy is even deeper - they were never on your side in the first place! How long is the list of suspected double-agents these days? Or perhaps power is corrupting, although you never seem to shrink from demanding to wield it - at least vicariously, on the part of people you can blame if you fail. One thing is for certain: Power does not corrupt you. You are Incorruptible - or would be if by some miracle another human being could tolerate your attitude long enough to put you in a position of authority.
If only someone had the courage to stand up for what is right. Someone who isn't you. I mean, theoretically you could stand up for yourself like so many generations before you and affect change the way they did, but...but...why should you have to do what someone else can do for you? Only a betrayer would demand any such thing. Yup - a betraying betrayer. Who betrays you. Betrayal. Gosh, that word sure is ego-enhancing, isn't it - just shoves responsibility straight to the opposite end of the universe from yourself. Something's missing though...it would sound more appropriate to pronounce the 'r' as a 'w'. Betwayal. That sounds somehow closer in character.
I'd be curious to know what proportion of the loudest reactionaries actually have skin directly in this current crisis. I do. Funny how much more composed I am about it than people whose concerns are entirely identity- or ego-based. Betwayal! Err, sorry, your Victim Tourette's seems to be rubbing off on me. I think maybe my soup might be betraying liberal values, and the dust bunnies in the garage could be planning to cave to the Republican grease spots under the car. I wish someone other than me would do something about it! Save me, Super Sanders! But do it quick before I have a chance to be disappointed in you.
