Actually, I need a picture of your dog. Or your cat. Maybe your llama. I hate asking for things from other people, so it pains me to mention that I also want $8. You probably want to know why, and boy howdy, do I want to tell you.
Animal rescue is a pretty progressive arena to begin with. It tends to draw folks that care, and folks that care aren't very good at ignoring suffering, whether in people or animals. Collie Rescue of the Carolinas is trying to do something more than just rescue animals in our service area. We're attempting to give nine other groups the same kind of exposure and increase in funding we're getting by creating a 2012 calendar that's also an educational and promotional tool for groups across the country.
To fund the printing, we designed a layout with space for one small picture on each day. Photo spaces are $8 a piece. Thanks to a very generous offer from a small, liberal print shop (small business owners rock!) we're getting 12 x 18 inch four color glossy, saddlestiched books with predrilled hanging holes and a heavier stock cover. If we sell all the spaces it pays for 1000 calendars, which retail for $12 a piece. Groups that chose to will receive 75 calendars for participating in the project at no cost to them, assuming we can sell all the slots.
And that's why I need your pet photos. One eight dollar donation pays for the printing of just shy of three units. It's even better than matching funds. If you feel like buying a calendar later, you'll also get to see your pet in print. If it were just the money, I could probably lean on a few friends, and between us, fund this thing. That won't fill the calendar and give us something to print. We've got about 84 spaces left to fill, and a month left to do it in, so yes, I'm begging.
There's a lot of worthy causes here on DKOS. Please consider this one. Breed rescues help take some of the burden from county shelters, and assist people in all sorts of situations. We've provided puppies for guide dog training, helped people to die with less anxiety knowing their pet is safe from the pound, been involved in cases by social workers . . . the list goes on, and undoubtedly, I'm preaching to the choir on the interconnectedness of all social welfare missions.
So please, if you have a pootie or a woozle, or if you know someone who does, consider pitching in. You can even upload your photo online. We've tried to make it as easy as possible for you. I kan haz pix nao pls?
All the adorable animals in this post can also be found in our calendar!

Two months had no space in the layout to advertise rescue groups. Space was given on a first come, first serve basis. There are a lot of other great collie groups that aren't in the calendar, and we would never want to imply otherwise.
