There was a press conference awhile ago with Senators Rockefeller, Boxer, Schumer, and Reid, as well as Rep. Hoyer. They all said that the holdup on the FAA reauthorization bill was Delta Airlines. Sen. Rockefeller said that Rep. John Mica told him, and has said many times that Delta wants union election votes of people not voting to count as "no" votes. That's the whole issue. That's the whole issue that caused the FAA reauthorization to fail to be passed. That's all it took for 70,000 private construction workers to be furloughed for 6 weeks, at least. That's all it took to furlough 4,000 FAA employees. And many of the FAA workers are working without pay. And the safety inspectors are using their own credit cards to fly from airport to airport to do their jobs. So, call Delta Airlines and tell them to call Rep. Mica and tell him that he's off the hook, he can just pass the bill. Call 404-715-2600, don't push any number choices, wait for someone to answer and ask to speak with someone in the executive offices.
Additional information:
From what the senators said, there is a way to get this done quickly. Apparently, in order to keep President Obama from making recess appointments, both Houses are conducting pro forma sessions until they're officially back. And this means that they can call people back to take a vote.
The lady I spoke with at Delta was unaware of any of this, but she was very polite. She expects to receive additional calls, so don't be intimidated.
Senator Schumer said this was another case of hostage taking.
So, if you are tired of hostage taking, or if you just care about even more people becoming unemployed, or if you support unions, please make the call.
