Dear Obama, we need to talk . . .
via ThinkProgress.org
President Obama nominated a very odd candidate to be the next U.S. Attorney in Utah, the chief legal advisor to the Senate’s most radical tenther, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT):
President Barack Obama tapped Sen. Mike Lee’s legal counsel to be the next U.S. attorney for Utah, a move that infuriated Democrats from the state and ended a lengthy political drama over who would claim the high-profile position.
The White House on Tuesday announced the nomination of David Barlow. He will need to win Senate confirmation before he can claim the spot as Utah’s top federal prosecutor, a job that has remained vacant since the end of 2009.
I guess there aren't any Democrats in Utah, or, for that matter, in the White House either.
Seriously, Obama, look below this little squiggly thing, cause there is something you need to hear . . .
Barlow’s decision to leave a successful and lucrative law practice in order to work for someone with Lee’s contempt for the Constitution raises serious concerns about Barlow’s fitness to serve as Utah’s top federal attorney. It is, of course, possible that Barlow does not share his boss’ views — indeed it is even possible that Barlow sought the U.S. Attorney job because he wanted a face-saving way to leave a job that forces him to push a dangerous and radical interpretation of the Constitution. Before Barlow can be confirmed, however, the Senate owes the people a Utah a duty to ensure that Barlow will not use his position in the Justice Department to push Mike Lee’s radical constitutional agenda.

I have no idea why Obama chose this nominee. It does nothing but undermine Obama, politically. This is a stupid nomination. What does this prove, that we need more Republicans? Why did Obama make this nomination? What, there aren't any Democrats in Utah? Does Obama's advisers think it will win him support from independent or Republican voters? Because it's hard to make the case for sending more Democrats to Washington when Obama keeps nominating Republicans while they hold up his other nominations.
And that is the total mindfuck irony, that Senator Mike Lee, just as all the other GOP Senators do, has held up every damn bill the Senate has sent Obama under his Presidency, everything gets filibustered to death, a mini hostage situation each time or just pure obstruction, but either way Senator Mike Lee and his fellow Republicans have held up every Obama nomination for as long as possible, resulting in the Obama Administration having some of the lowest numbers of nominations confirmed under any other Presidency at this point, and what does Obama do? Does he demand that the Senate Republicans confirm his nominees? No. Instead he folds and nominates Republicans who Senate Republicans will approve of. Well, that last sentence is just mind reading on my part, but none of the other conclusions I have come up with make sense. This is just a really, really bad nomination.
So way to go, Obama! You've successfully proven that elections matter less than I thought, because we all remember how many Democrats the Bush/Cheney Administration nominated out of the spirit of bipartisanship, and now I'm sure the Republicans will return the favor!
Dear Obama, the more you become a Republican, the more I become an Independent.
Yours truly, a lifelong Democratic voter
Peace and love to all, I don't usually post two diaries so close to each other but this is just fucking ridiculous.
Dear Obama, WTF?
