From HP:
"The people who do fundraisers are the people who don't want to pay taxes," Johnson said.
Politicians "spend an awful lot of time calling people with assets," said Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America's Future, a liberal think tank. "You don't spend a lot of time with people who aren't affluent, and you certainly don't have extended discussions with them about economic policy." Over time, Borosage said, "you develop a set of self-justifying rationalizations," he said.
It helps that the Washington elite hasn't suffered from the financial downturn much, if at all, Palley noted. "There's no doubt that they live in a bubble," he said. "They're not feeling the pain that the country is feeling."
I was in the heart of Washington DC recently. It's not at all like the United States. The architecture and layout reminds one of France and Greece. You could eat off the streets... well, except for the parts where politicians don't drive through.
I can see how easy it would be for these assholes whom we represent to completely forget what the rest of the country looks like. Chauffeuring around between their pricey apartments or homes to these giant stone institutions built by us, there's little chance to run into real events, like a home foreclosing or an unemployment line.
In short, these people have abandoned us. They've found their gravy train, got on and didn't even so much as wave goodbye. They've sold their souls to people they were very likely envious of if they were not at first rich or golf buddies of if they were.
None of these assholes are like you or me anymore.
Our party has completely sold out. For the first time in my life I feel there is NO ONE looking out for my interests in Washington and I'm pretty much a centrist. Nonetheless, while we will continue to vote democrat despite the pathetic weakness of everyone in our party (particularly Harry Reid, who is an absolute disgrace to it in every imaginable way), republican voters completely baffle me.
How can it be that people are so stupid that they don't see the connection between the financial security these people enjoy and their deaf ear? How brain dead are voters that they would trust their meager futures to spoiled men who's rich families were their only employment before entering politics (Eric Cantor), ex-lobbyists who's parents were wealthy politicians (Jon Kyl), and others who's families are so wealthy and have been involved in politics so long they NEVER had a concept of what living within means was (Connie Mack).
I've got no hope for Washington anymore. They are no longer part of a solution. They are, in my opinion, the people who want to destroy me and those like me. Washington has, sadly, become the enemy of the people who pay their salaries.
