OK, only for 30 days, but notorious anti-tax advocate Bill Sizemore, who during the 1990s terrorized Oregon politics and Oregon labor unions with his anti-government and anti-land-use ballot measures, is headed to jail, after pleading guilty to three counts of--what else--income tax evasion. (He was prosecuted for evading his Oregon income tax bill; no word if the feds have any interest in him).
He also gets 36 months of probation, 100 hours of community service, and must re-file his taxes (CORRECTLY, this time). Oh, and he gets to pay the state's court costs. Sizemore, whose career as a libertarian bomb-thrower (he stays away from social issues) included a run for the governor's mansion in 1998--securing the GOP nomination but getting crushed by the incumbent Democrat John Kitzhaber, who of course is back in the governor's mansion. He intended to run again in 2010, but his political career was put on hold by the tax evasion indictment. (Instead, we got a taller version of Sizemore who can't shoot free throws, on the GOP ticket).
I'm certain, however, that we probably haven't heard the last of Sizemore. While his political career is probably over--nobody wants a tax cheat as governor--he should be out in time for some more initiatives.
