Jon Huntsman's campaign announced Wednesday that the the Republican presidential candidate has won the endorsement of Jeb Bush Jr., the 28-year-old son of the former Florida governor.
Now if Huntsman can just line up the endorsement from Bristol Palin, he'll be golden.
Former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Iowa Caucus winner Mike Huckabee will grace Saturday’s straw poll in Ames, but not in his capacity as a known politician. Rather, Huckabee will take to the stage to showcase his musical skills. [...] “I am thrilled Gov. Huckabee will be joining us this Saturday for our family friendly party to celebrate freedom and Iowa traditions,” Santorum said through campaign staff. “If there is anyone who understands traditional family values and Iowa’s great political heritage, it is Gov. Huckabee. I know how much our supporters will enjoy visiting with him and dancing along to his well-known bass playing.”

Ahmad Taki is desperate to get out of Afghanistan, fearing for his life after receiving death threats in midnight phone calls because he works for the Americans. Nine months after applying for a visa to the U.S. designed for cases like his, he’s heard nothing and feels abandoned by the people for whom he’s risked his life. Taki is one of about 2,300 Afghans who have applied to a special program that awards U.S. visas to Afghans who have worked for the U.S. government for at least a year and are in danger because of this work. But since the Afghan Allies program began in 2009, not a single visa has been handed out. A document obtained by The Associated Press suggests the delays may not be a matter of bureaucracy but reflect a worry among U.S. officials over holding on to hard-to-replace employees.

The American Bar Association passed a resolution Tuesday urging the U.S. Congress to reject any changes to the Constitution that would eliminate automatic citizenship for anyone born in the United States. About 400 members of the attorneys association, which is holding its annual meeting in Toronto, passed the resolution in a voice vote. [...] "This is something that should be avoided at all costs," [American Bar Association President Stephen] Zack said. "Certain issues are not really about what the words are about, but what the underlying concerns are about."

One measure of the psychological impact of 9/11 is this: At least 10,000 firefighters, police officers and civilians exposed to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center have been found to have post-traumatic stress disorder, and in a kind of mass grieving, many of them have yet to recover, according to figures compiled by New York City’s three 9/11 health programs.
America is losing the war on meth thanks to government cutbacks. Lab seizures have dropped by a third or more in the nation's top meth-producing states, according to an AP analysis. A Tennessee sheriff describes the 'sickening' retreat: In Warren County, Tenn., about 70 miles southeast of Nashville, deputies had "always been very aggressive on meth," Sheriff Jackie Matheny said. By midsummer a year ago, they had busted some 70 meth labs. This year, that number tumbled to 24.
