Jim DeMint says President Obama is leading the most "anti-American" administration in his lifetime:
We saw within a few days that this President was going to be heavy-handed, he was going to implement his agenda and pay back his political allies, and it just went on from there to ObamaCare and then to Dodd-Frank. It has been the most anti-business and I consider anti-American administration in my lifetime. Things that are just so anathema to the principles of freedom, and everything he has come up with centralizes more power in Washington, creates more socialist-style, collectivist policies. This president is doing something that’s so far out of the realm of anything Republicans ever did wrong, it’s hard to even imagine.
If we are to take DeMint's words seriously, it would be reasonable to ask who he thinks was the most anti-American president ever—not just in his lifetime. Given that he's from South Carolina, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, I would assume that he believes Abraham Lincoln was the most anti-American president in history. (He was born in 1951, however, so it's possible he'd choose FDR, or maybe even Obama.)
Of course, it's a mistake to take DeMint's words seriously. Remember, this is the same guy who in 2008 said he wanted ObamaCare to go national—back when it was still called RomneyCare:
STEVE DOOCEY: One thing the former governor did up in Massachusetts, Senator, is that he was able to, without raising taxes, make sure that everybody in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts wound up with health insurance. Real briefly, can you explain how he did that and whether that might be something he'd take coast-to-coast.
DEMINT: Well that's something I think we should do for the whole country.
So if President Obama's health care plan is part of what makes him anti-American, and Obama's plan is based on RomneyCare which DeMint wanted to "do for the whole country," doesn't that make Jim DeMint the original anti-American?
