Tonight's the third Republican presidential debate in the 2012 nominating contest, this time from Ames, Iowa. Join in the live commentary and discussion here on Daily Kos while you watch it live on
Fox News Channel GOP TV or
on the web.
5:47 PM PT: As we wait for the debate to begin at 9:00PM Eastern, the three big pieces of news today: (1) Mitt Romney thinks "corporations are people"; (2) Rick Perry has pre-announced that he will announce his candidacy on Saturday, confirming his pre-pre-announcement; and (3) a new CNN poll shows Perry essentially tied for the top spot nationally with Mitt Romney among Republican primary voters. Bachmann has dropped by about 5 points from the previous poll.
5:50 PM PT: Democrats are already out with a music video of Mitt Romney saying corporations are people.
5:54 PM PT: I'm especially curious to hear the GOP explanation for why keeping the Bush tax cuts makes good economic sense given that (a) we've kept the Bush tax cuts and (b) the economy sucks.
5:58 PM PT: To give you a sense of just how far to the right all of these candidates will be, Brett Baier, the Fox News host and debate moderator probably will be the least conservative person on stage (unless there's a local Iowa reporter).
5:59 PM PT: I wonder if they could put a toupee on stage in Rick Perry's honor? Or maybe a pair of cowboy boots?
