I know a lot of folks here like to say they are pro-union, but I kind of wonder.
I was raised in a family where unions were given like god status. You never fuck with a union. Ever. And this is from Republican parents that were not members of a union. My parents never forced their views down my throat, how they raised a hippie liberal, but their views on unions were clear.
They rock and you never cross them.
A little Sunday morning story below the fold.
The 7-11 type gas station up the street from me a few months ago decided to have some work done. New pavement. New gas tanks. They decided to use non-union labor. Now I wonder if this happens where you live, but where I live that gets you a picket line. I mean "old school" walking up and down the sidewalk with signs explaining they are not using union labor.
I was taught as a kid in the 70s you never cross a picket line. You might get punched in the face, and you would deserve it. People are more polite today, but not sure anybody crossed that line.
People were driving around the block in mass and honking their horns. Getting out of their cars to stand with them.
It took less then two days and the owner of the station decided maybe hiring union labor was a good idea. He did.
I often mention here I live in a "cool" little rural town. I do. But this happens a lot around here. Not just in my town. Union members are the core of the workforce around me. When I see the attack on unions in states around me I get the push back. Again as my father taught me you don't fuck with unions.
