So, my wife and I were talking tonight and (maybe) realized:
1. Obama is going to lose the election because America is more stupid and/or selfish than it is not. And...
2. Either Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, or Mitt Romney will be the next President (with Sarah Palin or Super Grover as VP).
Once the unelievable sense of doom crashed over us--which, strangely enough, felt worse than it did in 2000 when the Supreme Corp. handed the election to Bush--we asked, "Does this mean we actually want Romney to win the Republican nomination?" Can somebody out in Daily Kos-land tell me "Oh yes, definitely" or "That's crazy talk, you fool!" I'm all ears.
I already hear people saying, "No, we want Bachmann to win the nomination because everyone will see how crazy she is and there's no way she'd win." I felt the same way about Bush. I live in Wisconsin, and this coming Tuesday the most bat-shit tea party loony goose is likely going to unseat a Democrat in a recall election. Since the media is averse to truth, or even pointing out things that are not factual, Bachmann has a shot. Right? And then the world ends.
Another sign: I'm reading a book on "Futurism" (long story and ironic subject matter) that was published in the 70's. I bought the book used, and the previous owner, who read the book in the mid-eighties, had some interesting political marginalia. Next to a passage that describes, in detail, what facism is, are the pencilled words, "My God, this is the 1984 Republican platform." Next to a passage about, well, evil, is the lone word, "Reagan." I take this as a sign.
Since it seems the majority of Americans only care about disposable income and cheap stuff, this is over right? The right-wing is going to keep taking and taking--from education, social security, healthcare, benefits--until there's nothing left, not one penny. Then we start invading countries to take their stuff (but what's new on that front?). Then we collapse.
So, have I lost it? Can someone talk some sense into me? Do I really have to pull for Romney to win the republican nomination because he seems reasonably sane (when you excuse the fact he lies once a nanosecond and has no soul)?
