In a time of uncertainty and challenge, when Americans watched jobs and home values evaporate, one executive's resolve, in the face of intense opposition, made the Great State of Texas the juggernaut of job creation.
That executive was, sadly, not the governor of Texas. It was the president of the United States.
Despite the near-unanimity of the state's Republican legislators, even the loud and continuous complaints of the state's governor, the president insisted on giving the state $16.1 billion in stimulus funds, allowing Texas to create or save 269,000 public sector jobs.
Though conservative ideologues may be disappointed to learn that Texas' stunning job-creation record derives primarily on socialist, government jobs and that even its private sector growth is due largely to socialist, government subsidies, they should be pleased that their new standard bearer has such a record to tout.
They, along with over a quarter-million Texans, can be grateful for the courage, determination and leadership shown by a strong executive.
Too bad for their narrative that the strong executive was President Barack Obama.
