UPDATE - Turkish media are reporting that 30 F-16s and F-104s were used to bomb PKK camps in Northern Iraq and that Iran gave the Turkish Air Force permission to use its airspace during the operation.
---
Twelve more Turkish soldiers were killed today in PKK attacks. This brings the total to 45 since July, 1st.
The subject dominating all public, media and governmental discussions in Turkey has recently been and now will be even more the PKK attacks and what the government’s and the military’s responses will be.
The government had stated that major actions against the PKK would begin after Ramadan, but now are saying that there is no reason to wait.
There are breaking news reports now that PKK camps in Northern Iraq have been and are now still being severely bombed by Turkish aircraft.
Syria has moved way down the list now.
There are also reports that the Israeli government today decided that there will be no apology or compensation for the attack on the Freedom Flotilla and the deaths of nine people during the attack.
The Turkish government’s and the media’s response has been ‘Our demands are the same. We don’t really care anymore about the constant conflicting announcements coming from the Israeli government or the disorder and conflict in the Israeli government.’
The level of discontent is the highest now than I’ve seen it quite a while.
