I haven't posted one of these in quite a while. This one is going to be a random selection of photos I have taken in the past couple of months. I hope you enjoy it.
Gramps
This is our old friend Gramps. He (well maybe she, who knows) has moved from the port to starboard side of the wreck. He seems to be doing just fine. Here is a little video of our pal:
Juvenile Spotted Dolphin
This is the species that is associated with yellowfin tuna and was killed by the millions before "dolphin-safe" tuna fishing practices. I imagine many are still killed. They are quite acrobatic.
Viper Moray
Definitely the most intimidating appearing moray in Hawaii. Well I suppose an eight foot giant moray would be scarier but I haven't seen one.
Eyespot Shrimp
Tiny shrimp that live down in branching coral.
Harlequin Shrimp
These beauties feed on sea stars.
Dragon Moray
This was a recent highlight. I have been looking to photograph one of these babies for years. They are quite rare in the main Hawaiian islands, partly because the aquarium collectors get over $1,000 each for a specimen. A law to put severe restrictions and eventually ban aquarium collecting on Hawaiian reefs recently died in the legislature. It doesn't help that the head of the DLNR, William Aila, hold an aquarium collectors permit and definitely on the side of collectors.
Green Turtle
Another Happy Honu
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
Coastal Brown Bear
Bald Eagle
Really Big Bear
Oh, by the way, I did not take these in Hawaii.
At Brooks Falls, Katmai National Park
Tell Stephen Colbert I am looking for him!
Horned Puffin
Gulls and Glacier
Thanks so much for visiting. I hope this helped in some small way.
Aloha!
