Forgive the brevity of this, but I have just seen a report that the Verizon strike is being settled
On Facebook, one particular group Verizon East 2011 Mobilization just posted the following message.
Agreement on Bargaining Reached!
Thanks to our unity, we will return to work on Tuesday with the contract back in force and bargaining restructured. There will be a member update call on Sunday at 11 am EDT.
Hopefully, this is not a premature declaration of victory, as my understanding is that an agreement reached would be tentative. Hopefully this news is accurate and is a win for labor and for the striking Verizon workers. I am sure that there is more detail to come.
In the meantime, if anyone has any specific info, please post.
10:13 AM PT: just got some conformation on this, but the report is suggesting that a new contract has not yet been written.

Leaders of the unions that have been on strike against Verizon Communications announced on Saturday that they were ending the walkout even though the two sides had not reached an overall settlement for a new contract.
Beginning with the evening shift on Monday, the 45,000 striking workers will return to their jobs, posts that they left on Aug. 7 in the nation’s largest strike since 2007, when workers at General Motors held a two-day strike.
Union leaders are ending the walkout, they said, because Verizon management had finally agreed to engage in serious bargaining on the contentious issues after the company had originally insisted on negotiating more than 100 proposals for concessions.
Officials from the two unions that called the strike — the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers — made the announcement on Saturday.
I just want to end this on an optimistic and musical note and to express the takeaway from this strike.
