I am solidly convinced that Obama has finally earned his Nobel Peace Prize, here's why. George Bush rushed a massive ground war into Iraq blowing up buildings, killing civilians, tearing down schools and burning oil fields. Nearly 4500 hundred American lives, and 30K severe injuries later, Obama started pulling the troops out. There are also far ranging estimates of dead Iraqis from 100K to over a million who were injured or killed.
This is the fruit of "ignorant" cowboy foreign policy where old men scratch their crotches and brag while young men clean their guns and die.
Today, we're seeing a new kind of war--smart wars--progressive style. In fact, twice now, Obama has overthrown brutal dictators with intellectual heft, patience and emerging technology. In Egypt, he was a silent spectator--sitting on the sidelines coaching the true players who were organically overthrowing our former ally with statements, speeches and Facebook.
He slowly and methodically tightened the noose around Mubarak's power--strong enough to leave him helpless but loose enough to not disturbed our other allies. Then, his people saw the green light to organically take him out.
Here Obama is again on the verge of overthrowing another brutal dictator--this time in Libya. And yes, he led from behind with fancy words and community organizing Europe and convincing NATO to take the lead. And, while I dare not minimize any loss of life, America's report card looks pretty good:
1. Planes shot down: 0
2. Tanks destroyed: 0
3. Helicopters shot down: 0
4. American deaths: 0
5. Americans soldiers injured: 0
6. Money Spent: 1 billion
So over the past few months, Obama removed the world's most notorious terrorist, helped to bring freedom to the Egyptians and has Libya poised to gain their independence in the coming days and weeks.
Can't you agree with me that he has totally earned his Nobel Peace Prize?
