The clock is ticking on the FAA fight.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA
isn't waiting around (PDF) for the current short-term FAA reauthorization to expire on Sept. 16. It's
asking airline passengers to contact their members of Congress urging a long-term FAA reauthorization:
With the possibility of another shutdown, the AFA said its members were distributing fliers about the FAA funding situation at San Francisco International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, North Carlina's Charlotte Douglass International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Portland International Airport this week.
The big sticking point on a new FAA bill, of course, is Republican insistence that it should strip airline workers of their right to a fair vote on whether to join a union. With the clock ticking, Rep. John Mica, the Republican point man on the issue, has been on a campaign to rehabilitate his reputation in time to avoid blame for another shutdown. Good for the Association of Flight Attendants getting the word out about what's really going on.
