President Obama has expressed a desire to address a joint session of Congress about jobs and the economy. Some Republicans are objecting.
A lot of arguments about Obama have been reactive interpretations, so I want to do something different. This is your chance to say in advance.
The media story will inevitably devolve into the political aspect of scheduling. If you think this is a big deal and rescheduling the speech is a bad idea, then we should put out the message in advance that, well, of course Obama's not going to negotiate a new date because if he did then that would mean he's a wimp and Obama's not a wimp. Getting that narrative out there early possibly narrows his choices. We would want the media talking heads to be discussing about how caving on such a simple matter will cause rank-and-file Democrats to lose confidence in Obama's ability to provide strong leadership.
On the other hand, if you think that this is a non-issue and delaying the speech is a reasonable request, then you wouldn't want to try to force reasonable options off the table.
So, I ask, would Barack Obama be a spineless weenie if he gives in to John Boehner on scheduling his speech?
